One by One Mentoring The Mentor Center connects faith-based mentors to at-risk individuals, families and youth who find themselves in a challenging life transition. The result is a life-changing experience for both. One by One Leadership developed a
comprehensive volunteer mentoring program which invites, equips, and deploys
volunteer mentors from faith and community based organizations. These
volunteers, under the supervision and guidance of the Mentor Center staff,
provide a supportive, mentoring relationship to participants who find themselves
in a challenging life transition. Youth MentoringA role model. A leader to look up to. Someone to call. This is what many of our youth told us they needed. A mentor is the answer to what many of our young neighbors in struggling communities are looking for. Someone who’s been in their shoes, who’s made mistakes and found out how to overcome those challenges. Someone to help them develop as leaders. A mentor. In collaboration with the Fresno Police Activities League, the Mentor Center trains, equips and matches faith-based mentors with at-risk youth enrolled in the Fresno PAL program. The
Promise Project: An estimated 10,000 children in Fresno have a parent incarcerated in a state or federal prison. Without effective intervention, 70 percent of these children will likely follow their parent's path into incarceration. Caring and compassionate mentors stand between these children and a future in prison. The Promise Project is a mentoring initiative headed by the Mentor Center of One by One Leadership that matches mentors from congregations to children of prisoners. The Mentor Center assists congregations in establishing mentoring ministries within their congregations and then helps those congregational members mentor children from the church's neighborhood who have a parent incarcerated. The local church provides the volunteer mentors. The Mentor Center provides the training, screening and up to $5,000 to the congregation to help establish the mentoring services in the congregation. If your church is interested in participating in The Promise Project contact Alicia Gonzales at (559) 233-2000, ext. 106 or by email at alicia@onebyoneleadership.com. Adult MentoringUnemployment. Many of our neighbors find themselves stuck in the vicious cycle perpetuated by the trap of unemployment. Once trapped… feelings of despair and hopelessness. Mentors walk alongside these neighbors, bringing with them visions of dignity and hope. Mentors point towards freedom, help navigate the journey and, in the process, find a changed life for the mentee and for themselves. The Mentor Center, in collaboration with ACS/Workforce Connection, connects mentors with mentees who are entering or re-entering the workforce. Home Ownership. A backyard, white picket fence, a family dog, neighbors, community, a place to call your own. Home ownership is about more than closing costs, escrow, deeds and property. It’s about family, relationships and investment in lives. The Mentor Center, working alongside the Fresno City and County Housing Authority, connects mentors to Housing Authority clients who, in an attempt to better their lives and the lives of their children, are working their way towards affordable homeownership.
